Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have booked their place in the semi-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Venezuela in their quarter-final encounter.
Captain Azeezat Oduntan proved to be Nigeria’s match-winner, converting a crucial penalty in the 88th minute to break Venezuela’s resistance and send the Nigerian contingent into celebrations.
The dramatic late goal rewarded the Flamingos’ determination in a closely contested encounter, where both teams battled for control and sought to secure a place in the last four of the competition.

With the match approaching its conclusion and the prospect of extra time looming, Oduntan stepped forward to shoulder the responsibility from the penalty spot. Her successful conversion proved decisive, ensuring Nigeria advanced without needing extra time.
The victory represents another significant milestone for the team under the guidance of head coach Hakeem Busari, whose players have continued to demonstrate resilience, discipline and determination on the global stage.
The Flamingos will now shift their attention to a challenging semi-final encounter against Brazil, scheduled for Wednesday at the main Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
Brazil are expected to provide a stern test for the Nigerian side, but the Flamingos will approach the encounter with renewed confidence following their narrow victory over Venezuela.
