NASRDA Confirms Lunar Crescent Visibility in Nigeria on March 30

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has announced that the first lunar crescent for March 2025 will be visible to the naked eye across Nigeria on the evening of Sunday, March 30, 2025.

According to a statement by NASRDA’s Director of Media and Corporate Communications, Dr. Felix Ale, the conjunction of the moon will occur at approximately 11:58 AM (West African Time) on Saturday, March 29, 2025. However, he noted that “the young lunar crescent will not be visible to the naked eye on this date anywhere in Nigeria.”

The agency confirmed that the crescent moon will first be sighted with the unaided eye on March 30, 2025, between 6:19 PM and 8:06 PM, depending on the location. The state-by-state visibility times are as follows:

• Maiduguri (Borno State): 6:19 PM – 7:23 PM
• Yola (Adamawa State): 6:20 PM – 7:23 PM
• Damaturu (Yobe State): 6:23 PM – 7:28 PM
• Gombe (Gombe State): 6:29 PM – 7:33 PM
• Kano (Kano State): 6:37 PM – 7:43 PM
• Abuja (FCT): 6:43 PM – 7:47 PM
• Lagos (Ikeja): 6:56 PM – 7:58 PM
• Birnin Kebbi (Kebbi State): 6:55 PM – 8:01 PM

“For all other states, the crescent will be visible within the range of 6:19 PM – 8:06 PM,” the statement added.

NASRDA emphasized that the calculations serve the general public, particularly for religious observances, scientific research, and academic purposes. The agency also encouraged researchers and institutions seeking detailed data beyond state capitals to visit its official website at www.nasrda.gov.ng.
