Lagos Govt, Aig-Imoukhuede reaffirm commitment to boost creative economy

The Lagos State Government and Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Coronation Group and Access Holdings, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Africa’s creative economy through strategic investments and collaborations.

This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation.

This commitment was underscored during the Lagos leg of Move Afrika, an initiative by Global Citizen that merges music, cultural celebration, and economic empowerment.

The event featured international music icon John Legend and Nigerian superstar Simi, alongside DJ Consequence.

Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, emphasised the state’s commitment to initiatives that drive economic inclusion through the arts.

“Move Afrika is a movement that aligns perfectly with the vision for Lagos. Hosting a global star like John Legend, whose music transcends time and whose commitment to social justice is profound, is a privilege,” she said.

“His presence here today is a reminder that art and activism are deeply connected. This gathering aims to inspire us all to be active global citizens—raising our voices and taking the necessary actions to ensure that economic opportunities reach every community,” she added.

Aig-Imoukhuede, a key figure in Africa’s financial sector and a member of the Global Citizen Africa Board, reaffirmed the strategic importance of investing in Africa’s creative industries.

“Africa’s creative economy is a powerful engine for sustainable growth. Our strategic partnership with Global Citizen, which began in 2019, is built on a shared commitment to real economic opportunities, long-term investment, and wealth creation. Move Afrika exemplifies how bridging global influence with African talent can unlock immense potential and create a lasting impact across communities on the continent,” he stated.

The event attracted a distinguished audience, including, Co-Founder and CEO of Global Citizen, Hugh Evans and Chair of the Global Citizen Africa Board and Chairman of Coronation Merchant Bank, Tunde Folawiyo.

Notable figures from the entertainment and creative industries, such as Ronami Ogulu, media personality Uti Nwachukwu, Afrobeat musician Made Kuti and his wife Inedoye Adanne Kuti, and actor Wole Ojo, were also present.

In a nod to Nigeria’s fashion industry, John Legend performed in outfits designed by local creatives, further spotlighting the country’s artistic prowess on a global stage.
