Nigeria’s APPL Hydropolis Project Earns Prestigious ISCC Certification

Nigeria’s APPL Hydropolis Project has officially been onboarded into the prestigious International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), marking a major milestone in the country’s green transition.

The certification, awarded by Baltic Control Certification Denmark, verifies the project’s compliance with RFNBO Verification, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Calculations, and ISCC EU Standard requirements.

Announcing the achievement, Dr. Felix Ale, Director of Media and Corporate Communications at NASRDA, highlighted its significance for Nigeria and Africa at large.

“This milestone marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s green transition journey and affirms the country’s leadership in climate-conscious industrial innovation,” he stated.

The ISCC certification is a globally recognized standard ensuring sustainability and traceability in supply chains. With this certification, the APPL Hydropolis Project is now positioned as a benchmark for environmental stewardship in Africa.

At the certification onboarding ceremony, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Geoffrey Nnaji expressed the Federal Government’s support.

“This is more than a celebration of certification — it is a powerful symbol of what is possible when African-led innovation meets global cooperation,” he said.

He emphasized that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, industrial growth and climate responsibility must go hand-in-hand.

The project, a collaboration between Nigerian stakeholders and international sustainability leaders, received high-profile support from global partners including DFDS Denmark, experts in sustainable maritime logistics, ECOnnect Energy AS Norway, pioneers in offshore low-impact energy transfer infrastructure, Bergen Engines AS Norway, manufacturers of efficient gas and diesel engines, H2 Core Systems GmbH Germany, innovators in modular green hydrogen systems, Longi represented by the VP of Europe, global leaders in solar energy technology, and Baltic Control AS Copenhagen, independent certification and compliance experts.

The Honourable Minister underscored the project’s role in driving sustainable infrastructure, reducing carbon emissions, and unlocking inclusive economic growth.

“This project is a beacon for Africa,” he declared. “It tells the world that we are not just participating in the global green economy — we are ready to lead it.”

With the APPL Hydropolis Project’s ISCC certification, Nigeria is taking a bold step in establishing itself as a leader in climate-aligned industrial development, setting an example for sustainable progress across the continent.
