NASRDA to hold Stakeholders Conference on Space Regulation April 8

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has finalized arrangements for its upcoming stakeholder conference on the regulation of space activities in Nigeria.

In a statement on Monday, the Director of Media and Corporate Communications at NASRDA, Dr. Felix Ale, announced that the workshop, originally scheduled for March 25, 2025, will now take place on April 8, 2025, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, the workshop—titled “Engagement and Sensitization of Stakeholders for the Commencement of Regulation on Licensing and Supervision of Space Activities in Nigeria”—aims to bring together key stakeholders to discuss the framework for licensing and overseeing space-related activities in the country.

Ale expressed regret over any inconvenience the rescheduling might cause, emphasizing NASRDA’s commitment to ensuring a well-organized and impactful engagement.

He urged all invited participants to take note of the new date and prepare to contribute meaningfully to discussions aimed at advancing Nigeria’s space regulatory framework.

He further explained that, under Sections 6(k) and 9(1) of the NASRDA Act 2010, as published in Gazette No. 106, Vol. 108, dated September 28, 2021, the agency now holds the mandate and presidential approval to regulate all space activities within Nigerian territory.

In light of this, all existing and prospective operators in the space industry must comply with regulatory guidelines available on the NASRDA website, register their operations with the agency’s Space Regulation and Spectrum Management Department, and obtain the necessary licenses for their activities.

Ale added that the stakeholder conference is designed, among other objectives, to foster robust deliberations on the way forward for the overall benefit of Nigeria’s space industry.
