By Clement Omanibe, Abuja
The campaign for the election of the incoming Senator for Kogi East in the 2027 political dispensation, Chief (Dr.) Erico Ameh, has gathered momentum following his “thank you” and mobilisation tour across the Senatorial District last weekend, ahead of the elections.
The tour, which covered the three federal constituencies of Kogi East, began with stops in Idah, Ejule, Anyigba and Ankpa and later culminated in a grand homecoming reception at Erico’s hometown, Etutekpe, Okpo, in Olamaboro Local Government Area.

A mammoth crowd of party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and well-wishers turned out from different parts of Kogi East to welcome the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and to be parts of the momentous event.
The APC campaign train was led by the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Comrade Joel Salifu Oyibo as well as the party’s three House of Representatives candidates in Kogi East: Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Halims of Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro Federal Constituency, Hon. Paul Gowon Haruna (IJN) of Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency, and Hon. Victor Uchola of Idah Federal Constituency.
Serving members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen, government appointees, APC stakeholders, party leaders and hundreds of party members and supporters were also present.
At Idah, the delegation paid homage to the Attah Igala, His Royal Majesty Dr. Alaji Mathew Opaluwa Ogwuche Akpa, CFR, before proceeding to other key locations across the Senatorial District.
The delegation also stopped in Ejule, where Erico paid a courtesy visit to the hometown of the Deputy Governor, before proceeding to Anyigba, the headquarters of the APC Zonal Secretariat, and thereafter to Ankpa, covering key areas across the three Federal Constituencies.
The grand finale at Etutekpe, Okpo, Erico’s hometown, witnessed a colourful homecoming reception attended by a large crowd of party supporters, political stakeholders, well-wishers as well as scores of the community people.
I will not betray this trust.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu Oyibo, who congratulated Erico on his emergence as the senatorial candidate, reaffirmed the party’s determination to secure victory across Kogi East.
He stressed that the upload of the candidates’ names by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had authenticated Erico’s candidacy and put to rest questions regarding the status.
Governor Ododo also formally presented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Erico and the three House of Representatives candidates to the people.
He urged party members and supporters to remain united and work collectively for victory in the 2027 general elections.
In address, Chief Erico appreciated the party leaders, stakeholders, delegates, members and supporters for their support during the senatorial primary and for backing the party’s mobilisation ahead of the elections.
He described his emergence as a victory for the people and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him by the party and the electorate.
He stressed that his intention for the Senatorial seat was not for personal interest but about providing an effective representation and advancing the cause of the people to guarantee their own portion of the dividends of democracy.
He pledged to remain accessible, responsive and committed to the development and wellbeing of the people of Kogi East.
“I want to sincerely thank all of you for the confidence you have reposed in me. I will not betray this trust. I will remain accessible to you and will work tirelessly to ensure that the voice and interests of Kogi East are properly represented at the National Assembly,” Erico said.
He also called on APC members across the three federal constituencies to remain united and focused as the party prepares for the elections.
The incoming Senator also urged party supporters to take the message of the APC to every ward and polling unit.
He assured them that victory would be achieved through unity, hard work and collective mobilisation.
Erico also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and Deputy Governor Joel Salifu Oyibo for their appreciable leadership and support.
He, however, called on all APC stakeholders to work together to deliver victory for the party in 2027.
In Etutekpe where the curtains were drawn on the glamorous and very successful event, party leaders and supporters expressed renewed commitment and readiness to mobilise for victory during the polls.
