Step-by-Step: How to Check Your Name on INEC Register Ahead of 2027 Elections
By Emmanuel Kwada
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its online platform for Nigerians to check the preliminary register of voters ahead of the 2027 general elections, following calls for wider public access to the document.
The commission announced the development in a press statement issued on Monday, October 26, 2026, saying the decision was intended to promote transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process.
According to INEC, the online platform, display.inecnigeria.org, provides access to the same preliminary register previously displayed physically at Registration Areas nationwide between October 9 and 15, 2026.

The physical inspection was conducted in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026, to enable registered voters to verify their particulars and submit claims or objections as provided by law.
INEC said it had taken note of concerns expressed by Nigerians and other stakeholders over the need to make the register available online in addition to the physical display.
The statement was signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Commission’s Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC).
How to Check Your Name on INEC’s Voters’ Register
Registered voters can follow these steps to check their details ahead of the 2027 elections.
Step 1: Visit the official INEC portal
Open your internet browser and visit https://display.inecnigeria.org/, the commission’s dedicated platform for viewing the preliminary register of voters.
Step 2: Sign in to the platform
Follow the instructions provided on the website to sign in and gain access to the register.
Step 3: Select your polling unit
Choose your state, local government area, ward and polling unit to access the relevant register.
You may also use your polling unit code, where available, to locate the appropriate register.
Step 4: Search for your name
Once the register appears, check the list of registered voters in your selected polling unit.
The platform displays voters’ names and photographs. You can also select the first letter of a surname to navigate the list more easily.
Step 5: Verify your personal details
Carefully check your name and other displayed particulars to ensure they are correctly recorded.
If you discover an error or discrepancy, consult INEC’s official guidance on the appropriate procedure for submitting a claim or objection.
What You Should Know About the Online Register
INEC’s online platform is intended for viewing the preliminary register. It does not provide facilities for new voter registration, transfer of registration to another polling unit or replacement of a Permanent Voter Card (PVC).
The platform also does not allow users to search for an individual’s name across the entire country. Voters must select the relevant polling unit to inspect its register.
Users should therefore ensure they select the correct state, local government area, ward and polling unit when checking their details.
Can You Correct Errors Through the Online Portal?
The online viewing platform is not a voter registration or correction service.
Voters who discover incorrect information should follow the procedures prescribed by INEC for submitting claims or objections rather than assume that checking their details online automatically corrects any errors.

The commission conducted the physical display exercise from October 9 to 15, 2026, to give registered voters an opportunity to inspect their particulars and raise concerns in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026.
INEC said it was continuing to process claims and objections arising from the exercise.
INEC Announces December 15 Deadline for Final Register
The commission has scheduled December 15, 2026, for the certification and publication of the final register of voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In its statement, INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and the implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026, as part of efforts to deliver credible elections.
The online publication is an additional measure intended to make the preliminary register more accessible to Nigerians beyond the physical inspection exercise already conducted nationwide.
Registered voters are encouraged to check their details and follow the commission’s prescribed procedures if they identify discrepancies.
