Excel LED Was Born Out of Passion for Professional Media Delivery..Says Shoon

By Raphael Atuu, Abuja

The Managing Director of Excel Optoelectronics Company Nigeria, popularly known as Excel LED Screen, Ambassador Emmanuel Shoon Patrick, has said the company was established out of his passion for professional media delivery and the desire to improve the quality of visual communication in Nigeria.

Shoon stated this while speaking with journalists in Abuja on the journey, achievements and challenges of the company, which specialises in the manufacturing and distribution of indoor and outdoor LED screens for various applications.

He explained that the company’s products serve a wide range of sectors, including churches, event centres, supermarkets, hotels, offices, conference rooms and other establishments that require modern digital display solutions.

According to him, Excel LED was established to address gaps in the country’s media and visual communication industry by providing quality LED screens capable of delivering clear, realistic and professional visual experiences.

The company boss, who described himself as a sound engineer, said his professional background enabled him to identify areas where improvements were needed in the delivery of sound and visual technology.

“As a sound engineer, I understood what was missing in the industry and what needed to be done to achieve the best in sound and visual display. I decided to work towards providing solutions that would improve the quality of media delivery in the country,” he said.

He noted that the industry had gradually moved away from traditional methods of displaying information, such as projectors and printed banners, towards modern digital screens that offer better picture quality, flexibility and improved audience engagement.

Shoon said Excel LED was established to contribute to this transformation by making quality digital display technology available to Nigerian businesses, religious organisations and event organisers.

Speaking on the company’s growth, he disclosed that one of its early major engagements was with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), adding that consistency, quality service and commitment to customer satisfaction had helped the company build its reputation.

He explained that the company’s experience and steady performance had opened more business opportunities, strengthening both its operations and its relationships with customers.

According to him, Excel LED’s guiding philosophy is centred on excellence in LED screen technology, with the company placing considerable emphasis on product quality and performance.

“Our motto is excellence in LED screens. We believe in quality, and that is what we strive to maintain in everything we produce and deliver to our customers,” he said.

Shoon maintained that the quality of the company’s products had helped distinguish it in a competitive market, adding that customers deserved products that would meet their expectations and provide value for their money.

He also disclosed that the company brought Chinese technical partners into Nigeria as part of efforts to improve the quality of products and services available in the country’s LED screen industry.

“I brought Chinese people into the country to change the narrative in the sector, and the difference is clear,” he said.

The Excel LED chief executive officer stressed that the company’s screens were designed to provide realistic visuals and dependable performance, noting that customers should receive products that justify their investments.

He disclosed that although Excel Optoelectronics Company Nigeria was formally incorporated in 2019, its operations in the market began before the incorporation.

On product reliability and customer protection, Shoon said the company offers a two-year warranty on its products, while noting that electricity supply and power-related issues remain outside the company’s control.

He explained that the warranty policy reflected the company’s confidence in its products and its commitment to maintaining a good relationship with customers.

The managing director further described Excel LED as one of the early companies in the sector, maintaining that its operations and experience had contributed to the development of the LED screen market in Nigeria.

He, however, said the company was not interested in discrediting competitors, stressing that its focus remained on quality service, innovation and customer satisfaction.

“Our culture is not to discredit any company. We believe that the best way to establish ourselves is through the quality of our products and the services we provide to our customers,” he said.

Dollar Fluctuation, Electricity Supply Pose Challenges
Speaking on the challenges facing the business, Shoon identified the persistent rise in the exchange rate and inadequate electricity supply as major obstacles affecting the operations of companies in the LED screen industry.

He explained that fluctuations in the value of the naira against the dollar had increased the cost of procuring equipment and other materials from international markets, thereby affecting pricing and business planning.

According to him, businesses that depend on imported components and technology are particularly vulnerable to exchange-rate instability because changes in international purchasing costs can affect their overall operating expenses.
He also lamented the poor state of electricity supply in Nigeria, saying the situation creates additional difficulties for businesses that require reliable power to operate efficiently.

Shoon appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intensify efforts to improve electricity supply and address the economic challenges affecting Nigerian entrepreneurs.

He said a more stable power sector and a favourable business environment would enable companies to operate more efficiently, expand their services and create additional employment opportunities.

The Excel LED boss also recounted some past challenges involving allegations that other companies claimed ownership of products associated with his business.

He said seeking legal redress in such circumstances could be difficult because of delays in the administration of justice, which he described as another challenge confronting business operators in the country.

Despite these difficulties, he expressed confidence in the company’s ability to remain competitive through consistency, innovation and adherence to quality standards.
Shoon Promises Youth Empowerment, Corporate Social Responsibility
, while appreciating the company’s customers for their continued patronage and support, Shoon pledged that Excel LED would sustain its commitment to youth empowerment, employment opportunities and community development.

He said the company would continue to provide opportunities for young Nigerians to gain experience and develop their professional skills through its operations.

He also pledged to maintain the company’s practice of engaging National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the country, describing such opportunities as a way of supporting young graduates and helping them acquire practical workplace experience.

According to him, businesses should not concentrate solely on profit-making but should also contribute to the development of the communities in which they operate.

He encouraged other entrepreneurs and business leaders to embrace social responsibility by supporting young people, creating employment opportunities and contributing to initiatives that improve the welfare of society.

Shoon maintained that Nigerian businesses could play a significant role in national development by investing in local capacity, promoting innovation and providing opportunities for young people to become productive members of society.

He reaffirmed Excel LED’s commitment to delivering quality LED screen solutions, strengthening customer relationships and contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s digital display and media technology industry.
