Nigeria is facing an unprecedented climate crisis, as severe flooding and debilitating droughts ravage farmlands across the country. Bauchi State is the latest to be hit, with devastating floods destroying farms in Giade and damaging the Kano-Maiduguri Expressway.
Governor Bala Mohammed has appealed to the Federal Government for urgent assistance to alleviate the suffering of affected farmers and communities.

“We will inform the Federal Government,” Bauchi Gov. Bala Mohammed said during his visit to the affected site, after the flood washed away the Kano-Maiduguri Expressway.
This disaster comes on the heels of a severe drought in Adamawa and Kaduna States, where crops have withered and died due to a prolonged lack of rainfall. The contrasting calamities highlight the vulnerability of Nigerian farmers to extreme weather conditions, which are exacerbating food insecurity and threatening livelihoods.

In Adamawa’s Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, residents have come together in prayer, seeking divine intervention to end the drought. Muslim and Christian leaders have united in fasting and prayers, pleading for mercy and the return of life-giving rains. Despite their efforts, the drought persists, imperiling crops like maize and rice, which are essential to the region’s food security.
