APC Chieftain Predicts 2027 Victory for Tinubu: “Not Because of Performance, But Due to Weak Opposition”

A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and former federal lawmaker, Senator Abubakar Yusuf, has boldly predicted that the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election, attributing the expected win not to the government’s performance but to the absence of a formidable opposition.

Senator Yusuf, who represented Taraba Central Senatorial District from 2015 to 2023, made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme.

“APC will win the presidential election in 2027, not because the government of Asiwaju [Bola Ahmed Tinubu] has performed well but because there is no opposition; there is no challenge in the opposition,” he stated.

He further explained that while individual opposition figures may be credible, they lack the cohesion required to mount a serious challenge.

“Individually they are very credible captains, but as a team I don’t see them working together for the success of the opposition,” Senator Yusuf added.

So Tinubu will likely win, more likely win the 2027 election.

The APC stalwart expressed confidence that the ruling party is not “jittery” about the 2027 polls, insisting that the fragmented nature of the opposition gives President Tinubu a clear edge.

“So Tinubu will likely win, more likely win the 2027 election. We are not jittery at all. Because, I mean, we don’t have a challenge,” he said.

Senator Yusuf’s comments come amid ongoing debates about the Tinubu administration’s performance in its third year, with critics pointing to economic hardships, while supporters highlight reforms in security, infrastructure, and fiscal policies.

The former lawmaker also cautioned the President against over-reliance on APC governors, noting that many of them lack strong grassroots popularity with voters.

There is no challenge in the opposition.

The 2027 presidential election is still over a year away, but early political permutations and realignments have already begun, with several opposition parties and figures signalling intentions to challenge the APC.

Senator Abubakar Yusuf’s statement has sparked reactions across the political divide, with some opposition voices dismissing it as overconfidence, while others see it as a candid assessment of the current political landscape.
