Tinubu Hosts First Council of State Meeting

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu chaired the inaugural Council of State meeting of his administration, attended by former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as former military rulers Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar, who participated virtually.

According to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the National Council of State expressed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu and his cabinet. This followed presentations by six ministers and the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu.

The Council, which advises the President on significant policy decisions, comprises the Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, serving and retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, and the 36 state governors.

Kwara State Governor and Nigeria Governors’ Forum Chairman Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq addressed State House correspondents after the meeting, announcing the Council’s unanimous endorsement of President Tinubu’s leadership. He expressed satisfaction with the President’s governance of the nation.

The Council reportedly described the recent #EndBadGovernance protests as an insurrection and a movement aimed at regime change.

Notably, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida did not attend the meeting, with no reason given for their absence.

Governor Abdulrazaq briefed journalists at the State House, stating that the Council was pleased with President Tinubu’s governance, following presentations by ministers on the economy’s progress.
