Nigeria’s Largest Refinery Starts Production, Meets International Standards

The Dangote refinery has officially unveiled its products, ready to hit the market at any moment now that the company and the NNPC have finalized arrangements, marking a significant milestone in the country’s quest for energy independence and economic growth.
Speaking at the unveiling, Dangote praised the federal government for creating an enabling environment for the project to thrive. He also thanked the President for introducing the “Naira for crude” and “Naira for product” initiatives, which are expected to stabilize the Naira and reduce the demand for dollars in the market.

Dangote also commended the Vice President, Mr. DVG Edwin, and the Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Kulle Alake, for their roles in ensuring the project’s success. He also thanked Fatima, the commercial manager, for her contributions.

“I want to thank President Bola Tinubu for creating an environment that enables us to thrive and achieve this monumental task of providing energy for our people’s growth, development, and prosperity. I believe this is a truly great move. I also want to personally thank Mr. President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for introducing the ‘Naira for crude’ and ‘Naira for product’ initiatives.
“This will bring stability to the Naira by reducing the demand for dollars in the market by 40%, thereby stabilizing the market. However, there’s another issue – round-tripping, where people falsify documents and fuel doesn’t enter Nigeria. But with this refinery operational, we can track every loaded truck and ship, determining Nigeria’s true consumption patterns.
“Today, we celebrate and thank God for reaching this milestone of producing gasoline. Many doubted we could deliver, but we have. I especially thank Mr. DVG Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas, for his dedication, having taken only one vacation in seven years.
“I also thank Mr. Kulle Alake for ensuring everything was perfect, and Fatima, our commercial manager, for her great work. We must thank the President and government for making this possible. Without their support, we wouldn’t be here. I hope this refinery will change the dynamics in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa, meeting the demand for energy in both regions.”
Regarding the issue surrounding the quality of the product, Dangote assured the public that despite their product looking different in color, it is of the best quality.

“Although it may appear slightly different in color, rest assured that this is the real deal. You will now have access to good petrol that will make the engines of your vehicles last longer. You will no longer experience engine issues, which many of us have faced in the past. The quality of our product matches international standards, comparable to those in the US and America. We guarantee that our quality will be unparalleled,” he said.
“We are now going to the gantry, where you can see the loaded trucks, and as soon as we finalize with the NNPCL, our products will start entering the market. And, as I mentioned earlier today, we are helping to restore industry and manufacturing.
“We will begin real import substitution, which will save our nation foreign exchange and also earn foreign exchange, thereby stabilizing the Naira, as I mentioned earlier. This will also help bring down inflation and the cost of living.

“So, by the grace of Almighty God, we will all be proud of what we have accomplished. And we are very determined to achieve all this. Let me assure you of one thing: we have a high demand for polypropylene in this country. From October, Nigeria will no longer import polypropylene, which previously amounted to about a quarter of a million tons.”
