Kano Widow, Five Children Lose Lives Due to Poverty

A heart-wrenching incident has occurred in Kano, Nigeria, where a widow and her five children have lost their lives due to consuming expired cassava flour. The family, unable to afford a new batch of flour, succumbed to the toxic effects of the expired product.

The tragic incident occurred in the Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State when the mother reportedly prepared a traditional Hausa dish called ‘danwake’ using expired and discarded cassava flour, resulting in a devastating outcome for her family.

The deceased persons were identified as Alhakatu Abdulkarim (mother), Usman Abdulkarim, Jamilu Abdulkarim, Bashir Abdulkarim, Firdausi Abdulkarim, and Hafsat Abdulkarim.

An eyewitness, Mohammed Hamisu, described the incident as a result of hardship and poverty, stating that the mother was forced to use contaminated flour to feed her family.
