‎Happi LC SEP Combats Waste, Tackles Youth Unemployment in Suleja ‎

‎Happi LC & Totes has taken on the twin challenges of youth unemployment and environmental waste in Suleja, Niger State, with its Sustainable Entrepreneurship Project (SEP).

‎

‎The two-day programme, themed “Turning Craft into Climate Action,” was organised in partnership with United Evangelical Church, Suleja Youth Day 2025 and held on August 29–30, 2025. It trained 30 young people and women in tailoring, bag making, and accessories design, showing them how to repurpose fabric scraps and discarded materials into eco-friendly products that can generate income.

‎The training sessions featured industry experts who highlighted practical ways to turn waste into business opportunities. Mrs. Aduku Blessing, founder of P5 Environmental Service, urged participants not to overlook everyday materials. “Don’t waste resources,” she said. “Use your sense and make money.”

‎Similarly, Mrs. Emaojo Edo, a polythene bag manufacturer, explained how different types of plastic waste could be monetised when properly sorted. She listed companies already paying well for both low- and high-density plastics.

‎For many participants, the workshop was a life-changing experience. “I didn’t know making tote bags could be so easy. I also learned how waste can be recycled into key holders and earrings. With this knowledge, I can actually start a business as a side hustle. Thanks to Happi LC for this opportunity,” said Chisom Ekong.

‎Another participant, John Chubiyojo Samuel, added: “I had the opportunity to learn how to reuse waste materials that cause climate issues and recycle them into useful products. I now know how to take measurements, cut materials, and avoid mistakes in sewing. It was a pleasant and interesting experience.”

‎The initiative was free, with priority given to members of the host church and Suleja residents. Beyond technical skills, attendees gained insights into sustainable business practices designed to promote long-term income and community impact.
