FG, Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation Unveil Blueprint for Digital Accessibility

The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy has joined forces with the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation to unveil a national blueprint that will standardise the design of public sector websites.

This was disclosed in a statement on Monday following a two-day workshop, held recently in Abuja.

The workshop marked a significant milestone in the rollout of the Nigeria Web Design Standards (NWDS) Project. It brought together digital experts, designers, and key public service stakeholders to shape the future of how government websites across the country should look, feel, and function.

Led by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, the NWDS Project is aimed at transforming digital governance to be more inclusive, user-friendly, and aligned with the daily realities of citizens.

“This workshop marks a crucial step in our journey to transform how citizens experience government online. By standardising the design and functionality of public sector websites, we are laying the foundation for a more accessible, inclusive, and efficient digital government. I’m grateful to the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation for partnering with us to advance this important project,” Tijani said.

For the Minister, this initiative ties directly into a broader mission—one that envisions a digital government that works for everyone. Under his leadership, the Ministry has launched initiatives like the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, aimed at equipping young Nigerians with vital digital skills. Other programmes include expanded broadband access, strategies for digital public infrastructure and artificial intelligence, and partnerships with global tech leaders to position Nigeria as a key player in the digital space.

The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, a philanthropic organisation focused on improving public service delivery, is no stranger to this transformation agenda. Its partnership in the NWDS Project builds on years of work in advancing digital adoption across the Nigerian public sector.

The Foundation played a leading role in digitising the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation—a move that has inspired similar transformations across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. It has also signed Memorandums of Understanding with the Federal Ministries of Justice, Industry, Trade and Investment, and the Federal Civil Service Commission to deepen digital integration in governance.

In his opening remarks at the workshop, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of the Foundation, underscored the significance of setting a national digital benchmark.

“The introduction of a national standard for government websites is a bold and necessary step. It says to every Nigerian, we are one government, working together to serve you better. A standardised approach will ensure our websites are not only aesthetically aligned, but also functional, accessible, and user-centric, meeting the diverse needs of Nigerians at home and abroad,” he said.

Both the Ministry and the Foundation have reaffirmed their shared commitment to creating a seamless, secure, and unified digital experience for every Nigerian accessing government services online. Their collaboration signals a future where no citizen is left behind in the nation’s digital transformation journey.
