Africa Must Take Charge of Its Destiny, Says President Tinubu

By Emmanuel Kwada

President Bola Tinubu emphasized the need for African leaders to unite and tackle the continent’s challenges during a dinner in his honor at the People’s Palace in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

He stressed the importance of addressing the brain drain and talent exodus from Africa through strategic efforts.

“Africa must solve its own problems,” President Tinubu said. “To the world, Africa may seem wretched and ragged, full of conflicts. But we say no. Peace, stability, and democracy are the way forward for our collective and progressive development. President Mbasogo and I have agreed on this.”

To achieve this, President Tinubu advocated for promoting research and development by providing incentives and rewards, thereby encouraging innovation and retaining skilled individuals on the continent.

“We will continue to promote peace and stability throughout the continent,” he said. “Some of our brothers are still shackled, at each other’s throats. We will work together to promote peace in every possible way.”

President Tinubu expressed concern about the situation in certain parts of the continent and the Sahel region, saying, “What we are seeing is not pleasant for our present and not promising for our future. We must work together to make peace the focus of our development. Without peace, we cannot have development.”

He emphasized that the problem is not a lack of understanding but rather a lack of action. “We identify the problems, and we know what to do. Our problem is how and when to do them. I say the time is now. We must roll up our sleeves, put on our thinking caps, and work strongly for the peace and stability of our continent.”

Earlier, the President of Equatorial Guinea thanked President Tinubu for honoring his invitation.
