2023 Election: Governorship candidates must come from Kogi East, Uk’Omu Igala tells political parties
By Daniel Adaji
Uk’Omu Igala, an umbrella organization for all socio-cultural organisations in Kogi East Senatorial District, calls on all political parties in the state to ensure their governorship candidates emerge from Kogi East.
This was made public in a statement signed by Elder David Abutu, the national leader of the Uk’Omu Igala Organization on Friday 14 April 2023.
Delegates from the various political parties would be gathering to choose the governorship candidates of the various parties this weekend in the state.
According to the statement, the governorship position in the state has been held by Governor Yahaya Bello from Kogi Central Senatorial District for close to eight years, with little or no visible economic or human capital development in the state.
This would help to rescue the state from the hands of hirelings
The organization therefore urged delegates to ensure that only candidates from the senatorial district emerged as candidates for the November 2023 governorship election.
“This would help to rescue the state from the hands of hirelings who have mismanaged the state in the last eight years,” the statement said.
“In the 2023 governorship election the people of Kogi East Senatorial District have resolved to vote for only candidates from their senatorial district. This resolve cannot be breached by any form of intimidation, violence, or manipulation by forces from within and outside the state,” the statement said.
This resolve cannot be breached by any form of intimidation
Uk’Omu Igala warns “that the use of political thugs to scuttle the will of the people of Kogi East, a crude strategy used by some parties to deny the people of their right to choose their leaders in the last few years shall not prevail in the next governorship election.”
Below is an excerpt of the statement:
With regard to the next governorship elections, the body declares as follows:-
All political parties MUST ensure their governorship candidates emerge from Kogi East, as delegates gather to choose candidates this weekend.

Uk’Omu asserts that the use of political thugs to scuttle the will of the people of Kogi East, a crude strategy used by some parties to deny the people of their right to choose their leaders in the last few years shall not prevail in the next governorship election.
The November election is very crucial for the survival of Kogi State. The people shall reclaim the state from the hands of political bandits who have crushed the people in the last eight years, stolen Kogi’s commonwealth and failed to deliver any form of socio-economic development.
The November election is very crucial for the survival
Uk’Omu, after carefully interacting with some aspirants for governor in the primary elections, therefore, recommends the following candidates to delegates:
